Shahpura, in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district, is one of the state’s less-visited and most historically layered small towns — the seat of a Rajput principality whose 17th-century summer estates, historic lakes, and the extraordinary Dhikola Fort represent a Rajasthan that exists before the tourist infrastructure of the famous cities.
